Inspiring creativity through art, science, nature, and travel
Some of us aren’t meant to do only one thing with our lives, one passion or one discipline. The world has too much to offer in the way of experiences. Some people train and spend most of a lifetime on one thing and that is their “thing” and they know it when they find it. They become the master of their “thing”.
For some of us, however, the dreaded question: “what do you want to be when you grow up” leaves us scrambling for answers more and more the older we get. We cannot narrow down to one thing and have several interests. As we move through life, every experience leads to another experience and so on. We are all collections of our interests and life experiences.
Everything is connected and what seems like disparate disciplines and subjects can work together to make you who you are and help you to connect with the world around you. Having a variety of skills and interests can give a unique perspective for solving problems. The different skills can come together in unique ways.
As you go through the blog you will find an array of topics that I hope you find as interesting as I do.
Enjoy your visit!
The true scientist never loses the faculty of amazement. It is the essence of his being.

About Me
I am a scientist and artist. As far back as I can remember, I was fascinated by the natural world and how the human body works. Science and art were my favorite subjects throughout various levels of schooling. An interest in biology took me in many directions. In college I studied microbiology, biology, and the environment. In graduate school I combined my passion for microscopic organisms and cleaning up pollution in the environment. My current field is microbiology, but I also have also worked in the fields of environmental, health and safety, and restoration ecology. Having a variety of skills and interests has given me a unique perspective for solving problems.
I also find joy in making jewelry, drawing, spending time outdoors, reading, and traveling. My favorite types are media are oil pastels and markers.
My passion is to inspire people to find their creativity through the love of art, science, spending time in nature, and travel. Also, I enjoy sharing my curiosity and joy in finding new ways to experience and appreciate the world around us and how everything is connected.
